Tell me … how do speakers make sounds?

By metal vibrating. No, really!

To translate an electrical signal into an audible sound, speakers contain an electromagnet: a metal coil which creates a magnetic field when an electric current flows through it. (Are you still with me?) So this means it is, in turn, both attracted to, and repelled from, the permanent magnet, vibrating back and forth, pumping sound waves into the air.
